Washington, DC – Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) released the following statement after voting on legislation to safeguard American security:

“To be clear, the House would never be voting on this package of legislation if it were not for President Biden’s weak and ineffective leadership. By putting America last for the past three years enemies like China and Iran, as well as their proxies, have been emboldened and openly attacked Americans and our allies.

“This bill provides the weapons that Israel will need to defeat the Hamas terrorists and Iranian proxies that have destabilized the Middle East. Enabling our greatest ally and the only democracy in the region to protect themselves from the unprovoked attacks that have occurred over the past six months.

“Further, this legislation will confront the growing threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party by providing support to Taiwan and implementing legislation passed earlier this year in the House to force ByteDance to fully divest from TikTok.

“While supporting our allies in their fights against hostile adversaries is important, it is not the job of the United States to bankroll the paychecks and pensions of Ukrainian officials while our border remains unsecured and inflation continues to skyrocket. For that reason, I did not support the Ukrainian aid supplemental.

“It’s critical that any funding for Ukraine is tied to the border security that we so desperately need here at home.”
