Las Vegas, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) toured the brand-new West Sahara Senior Housing Complex that will be available for Southern Nevada seniors later this year. The project is supported by funding Cortez Masto delivered to Clark County through the American Rescue Plan and through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. She also discussed her new legislation she is leading to significantly increase the amount of federal funds available for affordable housing across the country, including those financed by the LIHTC program.

“Building more housing for hardworking Nevada families, including our seniors, is one of my top priorities in the Senate,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “This new housing complex will help hundreds of seniors live comfortably in a home they can afford, and I’ll continue working to lower housing costs and expand access for Nevadans across the state.”

West Sahara Senior Housing will provide 171 one- and two-bedroom apartment units with free utilities and supportive services. Applications will be available to Nevada seniors in the coming weeks.

Senator Cortez Masto has been a leader in the fight to lower housing costs and keep Nevadans in their homes. As Attorney General, she led the fight to hold Big Banks accountable for the foreclosure crisis, delivering $1.9 billion to homeowners in Nevada. Last year, she secured more than $4.8 million from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco to support Nevada affordable housing organizations, and cut through red tape to make it easier to build affordable housing across the state. She is also a sponsor of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act and the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act to help build more affordable housing.
