Minister Wang Wentao urges Chinese and Italian businesses to jointly oppose protectionism and work towards China-EU integrated development of green industry

On April 12, Minister Wang Wentao called on Chinese and Italian businesses to jointly oppose trade protectionism, pursue opening up and cooperation and achieve China-EU integrated development of green industry at the China-Italy Business and Dialogue Forum in Verona, Italy.

Minister Wang Wentao said the world economy is facing multiple challenges and green and low-carbon transition is at a critical juncture. The European Commission has recently adopted a series of negative measures targeting quality green products from China, including EVs, solar panels and wind turbines. It is typical self-contradiction and double standards to hold high the banner of green development on the one hand and the big stick of protectionism on the other. These moves will not only block the transition to a green world and dampen the Chinese and European companies’ confidence in investment cooperation but also undermine the foundation of mutual trust in China-EU commercial relations. Wang hoped Chinese and Italian businesses can play their role in jointly opposing unilateralism and protectionism, stay committed to opening up and cooperation, resist decoupling and disruption of industrial and supply chains and achieve integrated development. Wang called on all parties to jointly uphold the stability of global industrial and supply chains and make green development a true feature of China-EU trade and economic relations.
