Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced that the Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honorable Mary Simon, will visit the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, United States of America, from March 9 to 12, 2024, to attend the Arctic Winter Games.

The Governor General will use her visit to Alaska to encourage athletes, participate in cultural activities, meet with indigenous leaders and promote the importance of reconciliation with indigenous peoples around the world.

The Arctic Winter Games welcome approximately 2,000 Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants, making it one of the largest cultural and multi-sport events in the region. Modern sports, traditional Arctic sports, Dene games, workshops, shows, visual arts exhibitions and education programs: a variety of activities highlighting the cultural richness of the North will be organized.
