Neuchâtel, 30.08.2024 – In the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, Neuchâtel and Fribourg, 11% of the territory is residential and infrastructure areas. Built-up areas have therefore increased by more than a third compared to the early 1980s. However, since the last survey in 2013, urbanisation has been significantly slower, particularly because the construction of new housing increasingly involves the reallocation of existing residential and infrastructure areas rather than building on agricultural land. These are the latest results from the area statistics of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
