The new academic year at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University traditionally began with a meeting between the rector and the university staff. Andrey Rudskoy outlined plans for the upcoming period and summed up the results of the past academic year.

He noted that Polytechnic continued to participate in the Priority-2030 program, defending the results of 2023. Among the main results, the rector highlighted the technology of prototyping high-tech parts, which accelerates import substitution threefold. He emphasized the introduction of nine products into production and the creation of five small-scale products.
Speaking about the Polytechnic University’s new approach to forming the university’s personnel reserve, the rector reported that the university had strengthened its focus on the NPR-centricity. SPbPU became the winner in the nomination “Best HR technology for personnel assessment” among the Northwestern Federal District organizations for assessing the satisfaction of “internal clients” with the Polytechnic University services. The university organized training for employees at SberUniversity, advanced training courses for managers, testing of employee competencies jointly with “Russia – the Country of Opportunities”, and launched the inter-university “PolySchool”.
In the RAEX and Forbes ratings, Polytechnic University entered the top ten, in almost all subject ratings in the field of engineering sciences – in the top five. In addition, the university secured first place among Russian universities in terms of sustainable development goals. The MetaCampus project was included in the “best practices” of the Priority-2030 program at the federal level.
Summing up the results of scientific activity, the rector recalled the opening of new laboratories, including those under the leadership of young scientists, about working with industrial partners, about the transfer of fundamental research into applied developments and technologies.
“The development of fundamental research has allowed us to increase the volume of funding from the Russian Science Foundation. According to the results of 2023, cash receipts amounted to about 330 million rubles, which is 40 million more than the previous year. And at the moment, receipts from the RSF already amount to 340 million rubles,” Andrei Ivanovich said.
In his speech, the rector of SPbPU noted the work on training and certification of highly qualified personnel. 47 people defended candidate dissertations, five people – doctoral dissertations. Eight postgraduate students became winners of the competition for the scholarship of the President of the Russian Federation. Andrey Ivanovich spoke about the development of the Ecosystem of structural divisions at the federal level, which includes the Advanced Engineering School “Digital Engineering”, and spoke in detail about outstanding projects and the training of “engineering special forces”.
Summing up the educational activities, the rector was pleased that 205 master’s degree programs have been opened at the Polytechnic. Last academic year, almost 30,000 students studied in them, as well as in 145 bachelor’s degree programs and 13 specialist programs. 23 new basic educational programs were launched, including eight corporate programs with leading Russian companies. For this academic year, 19 new basic educational programs have been developed. Within the framework of network partnership, 47 network programs are being implemented, including with universities of the “new territories”.
In his speech, Andrey Rudskoy emphasized the quality of professional training at the Polytechnic University from the employers’ point of view. Forbes Education compiled a list of 20 Russian universities with the best reputation among employers, according to which SPbPU took the honorable eighth place.
Andrey Ivanovich noted that our university is building a comprehensive personnel policy aimed at developing the potential of university employees. 16,000 people have improved their qualifications and undergone professional retraining. More than 4,000 students studied at the “digital departments”, of which about 1,000 are students of universities participating in the Formula-IT consortium.
The work of the Natural Science Lyceum was marked by significant results. Of the 73 graduates, four were awarded gold medals and ten were awarded silver medals. For the first time in the history of the Unified State Exam, Lyceum students received seven hundred-point results.

Our university entered the top 3 universities of the city in terms of the number of diploma winners of the Olympiad “I am a professional”, 17 students received prizes. 26 graduates graduated from SPbPU with gold medals. He noted that Polytechnic became the curator of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University for the modernization of engineering education, and from 2025 will coordinate Slavic universities in Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
Separately, Andrey Ivanovich touched upon the work of the Polytechnic University Endowment Fund. The fund exceeded 100 million rubles, the income from it amounted to 6 million rubles. Two new endowments of the Fund were opened – IPMEiT and Fizmekh.
The rector recalled the assistance of SPbPU students and staff within the framework of the “Universities to the Front” campaign, and the development of the Lepota ecosystem, within which polytechnics have the opportunity to join a healthy lifestyle, sports, and culture. For the second year in a row, the Polytechnic University has taken first place in the city’s student sports competitions. Speaking about cultural life, the rector reported that the White Hall held a record number of concerts last season – 172. In conclusion of his report, the rector noted that the most striking event of the year was the 125th anniversary of the university, which brought together more than 7,000 people. Exhibitions dedicated to the anniversary of SPbPU were opened inPulkovo airport, onMoscow and Leningradsky railway stations, VPeter and Paul Fortress, Rosfoto Museum, Planetariums 1. Another exhibition in Pulkovo was dedicated to a large-scale the project “Flora and Fauna of the Polytechnic Park”. Project “You have the floor” gave the students and staff of the Polytechnic the opportunity to communicate with outstanding people of our time. Throughout the year, the university was among the top media ratings of the Ministry of Education: in January, the Polytechnic moved up to second place, and in May, for the first. At the All-Russian award “For loyalty to science!” became a laureate nomination “Scientific Press Service of the Year”.

The ceremony ended with a performance by the Polytechnical Variety and Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dmitry Misiura, who is the pride of the university.
