Peter the Great Polytechnic University has launched a specialist program in Bioengineering and Bioinformatics for the first time. This initiative was implemented with the support of the Genetic Innovations Fund and is aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of genetic and bioinformatics technologies. The program consists of modules developed by leading Polytechnic teachers — candidates and doctors of science in biology and physics and mathematics. The new program will provide students with access to advanced knowledge and practical experience in the university’s modern laboratories.
In 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted: Russia should have a whole line of developments that will allow us to prevent and treat serious diseases and increase people’s life expectancy.
The launch of the specialty will be a significant step towards the implementation of the tasks set within the framework of the genetic technology development program for 2019–2030.
In addition to government support, the development of bioengineering is actively stimulated by business structures. According to a study by the consulting agency Precedence Research, by 2034 the volume of biologically oriented technologies in the global economy could reach 4.61 trillion dollars. This trend demonstrates the importance of training qualified specialists in the field of bioengineering and biotechnology and opens up new prospects for future specialists and investors.
Students of the Polytechnic University program will be able to study modern methods of studying living organisms, modifying genetic material, obtaining bio-objects with specified properties, methods of analyzing big data, creating new algorithms and software. They will have the opportunity to apply bioengineering and bioinformatics technologies in medicine, agriculture and industry, as well as in fundamental and breakthrough research. This will allow them to become part of a new generation of scientists and engineers capable of solving the most ambitious tasks and making a significant contribution to the development of society.
