From August 26 to 30, a delegation from the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University visited Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The working visit to the Open Education Center took place within the framework of road map between SPbPU and KRSU. At the Polytechnic, the guests got acquainted with the distance learning system (DLS) “Open Polytechnic” and the basics of educational video production, in order to subsequently pass on the experience gained to colleagues with the aim of using the DLS at their university.

The KRSU delegation included the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering for Academic Affairs, Head of the Automobile Transport Department Mirlan Alseitov, Head of the Department of Physics and Microelectronics Aigul Aitimbetova and the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Construction for Academic Affairs Gulmira Shabikova. At the SPbPU Open Education Center, they attended theoretical and practical classes: lectures, master classes, etc.

During the visit, educational and methodological specialists Larisa Kovtunovich and Margarita Sergeeva told the guests how the LMS is organized at the Polytechnic. The guests were especially interested in the process of creating training courses. They learned how to create accounts, enroll students and teachers in courses, organize sequential learning, set up assignments and tests, and upload learning results. KRSU representatives also mastered portal administration skills: they learned how to make backup copies of courses and transfer them to another platform.

Timur Khludeev, Head of the Electronic Resource Development Department at the Open Education Center, shared with his colleagues from KRSU the basics of video production for educational activities. They discussed what an educational video is, how it differs from other formats, and discussed trends in this area. In addition, the guests tried themselves as authors and independently recorded several video lectures.

We are grateful to the management and staff of the Polytechnic University for the opportunity to undergo training specifically in the field of using modern information technologies in the educational process. These courses are necessary for our young university, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Of course, new knowledge and skills will make the work of our teachers easier and will be useful for students. We hope that our cooperation with the Polytechnic University will continue, – shared Mirlan Alseitov.

This working visit became an important stage in the implementation of the roadmap between SPbPU and KRSU. Over the past week, representatives of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University have been fully immersed in the process of organizing distance learning at the Polytechnic University and received answers from the Center’s employees to their questions. The next step will be training KRSU employees online on the course “Tools for Content Development Service and Organization of Electronic Learning”, upon completion of which they will receive certificates of advanced training, – said Artem Koshkin, Deputy Director of the Open Education Center.
