Over 25 sports stars to take part in EEF 2024
More than 25 winners and medallists from the Olympic Games, as well as world and European championships will take part in the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) Sports Games, which will be held on 3–6 September in Vladivostok. The EEF is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
On 4 September, EEF participants and Vladivostok residents will take part in the traditional 5-kilometre race, which will kick off the first day of the main Forum programme. There will be a warm-up for the race hosted by ambassadors and friends of the Healthy Fatherland movement: seven-time Olympic synchronized swimming champion Svetlana Romashina, two-time Olympic boxing champion Oleg Saitov, two-time Olympic fencing champion Yana Egorian, and Olympic artistic gymnastics champion Nikita Nagorny. You can register for the race in your personal account.
On the eve of the race, star athletes will take part in the Exercise Marathon. Together with Olympic cross-country skiing champion Alexander Legkov, Olympic boxing champion Yevgeny Tishchenko, two-time world boxing champion Raimkul Malakhbekov, and world artistic gymnastics champion Darya Nagornaya, they will conduct a sports lesson for 1,500 children from eight schools in Vladivostok.
Olympic cross-country skiing champion Veronika Stepanova and world snowboarding champion Sofia Nadyrshina will be actively involved in the work of the Russian Ministry of Sports pavilion at the Far East Street exhibition. They will also hold a presentation about the 4th Russian-Chinese Youth Winter Games, during which the best juniors from the two countries will compete in nine sports in January 2025 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the town where Nadyrshina was born.
Romashina, Egorian, Nagorny, Stepanova, and Nadyrshina will also serve as speakers at the session ‘Changing Times in World Sports. Shaping Russia’s Response’, which will be headed by the Russian Minister of Sports Mikhail Degtyarev.
“The Russian Ministry of Sports team headed by Mikhail Degtyarev is systematically working to achieve the goals that Russian President Vladimir Putin has set for the sports industry. The involvement of the athletes themselves is also crucial in solving these problems. In this regard, it made sense to have these speakers take part in the EEF sports session. The discussions will not simply be attended by star athletes, but also opinion leaders and ambassadors of their regions,” said Georgy Bryusov, director of the Centre for Sports Training of Russian National Teams and a member of the Roscongress Foundation supervisory board.
Olympic figure skating champion Anna Shcherbakova will put on a show as part of the hockey gala match, which will be held on 4 September under the auspices of the Made in Russia brand. The team captains will be two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov and Olympic champion Ilya Kovalchuk.
Fetisov’s teammates on the Made in Russia team will include two-time Olympic champion Alexei Kasatonov, and Olympic champion Valeri Kamensky. The team will be bolstered by current NHL star – 2024 Stanley Cup champion Sergei Bobrovsky.
Olympic champions Vyacheslav Butsayev and Vitaly Prokhorov, three-time world champion Danis Zaripov, and world champion Maxim Sushinsky will play for Kovalchuk’s Made in Russia team. Bronze medallists from the 2008 Euro football tournament Dmitry Sychev and Roman Shirokov will also compete in the hockey match. The hockey gala match is being organized by the Russian Export Center and the Roscongress Foundation.
European chess champion Vladislav Artemyev, the current holder of the EEF Chess Cup, will return to Vladivostok to defend his title from last year. Two-time world blitz champion Valentina Gunina will take part in the international tournament. The geography of the EEF Cup has now expanded to include 12 countries. Competitors from other countries include 13-year-old Vietnamese child prodigy Khuong Duy, who will compete in the adult group. Per tradition, the participants will include representatives of all regions of the Far Eastern Federal District.
Three-time European curling champion Nkeiruka Ezekh, the most titled curler in Russia, and her partner Oleg Krasikov will play in the Pacific Ocean Cup. The Russian national team leaders will also take part in the 3rd Vladivostok International Regatta. This year, rowers from eight countries will race in the coastal rowing event.
The Eastern Economic Forum will be held on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University. The Sports Games programme was prepared by the Roscongress Foundation’s sports platform, RC Sport.
