TAMARAC, FL — Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick joined the City of Lauderhill to announce $963,000 in critical Community Project Funding for its Comprehensive Crime Reduction Program.

“By equipping our police department with the tools and resources they need, we are saying loud and clear that we will not allow violence to take root in our homes. We are committed to supporting survivors of violence and holding offenders accountable,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. “I am proud to have delivered this critical funding for the City of Lauderhill’s Comprehensive Crime Reduction Program, which will enable our law enforcement officers to work more efficiently, effectively, and precisely. It will allow them to expand their reach without sacrificing the services that keep our community safe. This means increased intervention resources, enhanced crime prevention technology, and additional support for those in greatest need.”

“It has been a pleasure working with Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick since she took office. Her willingness to hear our needs and advocate on our behalf at the Capitol has resulted in her acquiring a substantial number of financial resources that positively impacted Lauderhill’s annual budget,” said Mayor Ken Thruston. “The safety and security of residents and law enforcement remain a top concern of the city, and this appropriation serves two major purposes: decreasing costs to taxpayers while giving our law enforcement more tools to fight crime without sacrificing services or safety. Thank you to the Congresswoman for the assistance!”

The Comprehensive Crime Reduction Program will support technology, programming, and staffing to improve incident response time while working to drive down crime occurrences in Lauderhill. The funding fills a critical gap in the Lauderhill community. It enhances the Lauderhill Police Department’s efforts to combat violent crime, focusing on domestic violence, which is a priority for the City Commission and Administration.

The funding for the City of Lauderhill was included in Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick’s requests for Community Project Funding (CPF) in Fiscal Year (FY) 2024. The requests delivered over $14.4 million in critical resources for Florida’s 20th Congressional District to address some of the district’s most pressing needs.
