WASHINGTON – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) hosted Arria, a former foster youth from Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District, for the annual Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day. Arria had the opportunity to gain a firsthand look at the workings of Congress and discuss crucial issues related to foster care and child welfare in Nevada.

“It was an honor to have Arria shadow me for the day,” said Congressman Horsford. “Her insights and experiences are invaluable as we work to shape policies that support foster youth in our communities. Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day underscores the importance of listening to and empowering our youth to drive meaningful change.”

Throughout the day, Arria attended a Financial Services hearing where Congressman Horsford questioned CFPB Director Rohit Chopra regarding their enforcement efforts and work to protect servicemembers, observed a constituent stakeholder meeting with the Nevada Paralyzed Veterans of America, and watched him record a video for the National Hispanic Construction Alliance. Arria also had the chance to interview Congressman Horsford about foster and child welfare in Nevada, met with his staff, and enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Capitol and the House and Senate office buildings.

The Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day is sponsored by the National Foster Youth Institute and the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth. This event allows current and former foster youth to share their stories and provide valuable insights into the impact of child welfare policies. Nearly 40 young people participated in this year’s event, culminating in an awards luncheon featuring special guests and notable speakers.
