Washington, D.C. – Congressman Colin Allred (D-TX-32) released the following statement after voting no against the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“For the second time, due to a number of divisive amendments that would restrict abortion access, attack LGBTQ rights for our service members, and other harmful provisions that are completely unrelated to our national security interests, I voted no on the NDAA.

“The House Armed Services Committee passed a strong bipartisan NDAA by a vote of 57-1, and I was prepared to support that bill. Unfortunately, that is not the final bill that we considered. Partisan extremists have again taken hold of an otherwise bipartisan process.

“We cannot allow politics to get in the way of our national security priorities. I am hopeful the Senate will pass a commonsense version of this legislation without these poison pills and I look forward to supporting it to ensure our service members receive the pay they have earned and our military is prepared for our national security challenges.”
