Yesterday the House passed two bipartisan bills led by Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) with unanimous, bipartisan support, the Rural Small Business Resilience Act and the ThinkDIFFERENTLY About Disability Employment Act.

“Entrepreneurs and small businesses face a range of unique challenges, and we know a one-size-fits-all approach by government agencies to provide support they need is simply ineffective,” said Congressman Pappas. “The House passed two of my pieces of legislation with bipartisan support which will require SBA to tailor its outreach and marketing efforts to reach rural businesses, as well as to ensure individuals with disabilities have equal access to pursue small business ownership and employment opportunities. I remain committed to ensuring our Main Street economy can grow and thrive, and I urge the Senate to swiftly take these bills up to deliver them to the President’s desk to improve support for these small businesses and entrepreneurs.”

Background:

The Rural Small Business Resilience Act would require the Small Business Administration (SBA) to develop specific outreach policies and procedures for rural communities and ensure that rural small businesses have full access to SBA assistance, specifically tailoring outreach and marketing plans for SBA’s Disaster Loan Program to address challenges rural communities face in accessing disaster relief.

The ThinkDIFFERENTLY About Disability Employment Act would require SBA and the National Council on Disability to collaborate to help people with disabilities pursue small business ownership and employment opportunities.

In April, the Rural Small Business Resilience Act and the ThinkDIFFERENTLY About Disability Employment Act passed out of the House Small Business Committee with unanimous, bipartisan support.
