A must-have in the baskets and plates of Genevans, the “Genève Région-Terre Avenir” (GRTA) guarantee brand is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Benefiting from an ever-increasing reputation and a high number of certified companies, the standard bearer of products from Geneva agriculture plays an essential role in promoting local and sustainable production. The canton is deploying concrete actions to support the development of the GRTA and guarantee the population quality, local food.

GRTA: a lasting link between agriculture and the Geneva population

Founded in 2004, GRTA aimed to highlight the variety of products from Geneva agriculture while strengthening the link between producers and consumers. It’s done! With an awareness rate of 80% among the Geneva population*, the brand now allows its approximately 360 users and 433 certified restaurants to promote their production around a common visual marker and 4 sustainability values: quality, proximity, traceability and fairness.

For Geneva residents, GRTA is also the assurance of contributing to responsible food and supporting the future of local agriculture. As Mr. Antonio Hodgers, State Councilor in charge of the Territorial Department, points out, “if GRTA continues to grow, it is thanks to the work of all those who work tirelessly to provide the population with local products, in fair and environmentally friendly working conditions. But it is also up to us, consumers, to make the choice of ever more thoughtful and sustainable consumption.”

70% of GRTA products consumed in Geneva by 2050

Faced with the economic and environmental issues affecting agriculture, the State of Geneva, holder-guarantor of the brand, aims to achieve 70% of certified products consumed by 2050. To achieve this, perpetuate credibility of GRTA and guarantee its accessibility, the canton can count on a series of measures such as:

Strengthening communication about compliance controls (traceability), sustainability and equity criteria; The multiplication of awareness-raising activities; The arrival of new distribution points and the continuation of promotional actions; Increasing the minimum number of products for the brand’s restaurants; The simplification of administrative procedures for companies, users and candidates for certification, thanks to a new digital tool available this fall.

1,500 certified products; 360 users (producers, processors, distributors); 433 certified restaurants (schools, collective catering, corporate and commercial restaurants); In 10 years: 5% users, 300 restaurants and 2 new product sectors (wood and fish); An annual turnover of 40 million francs.

Meet with GRTA from July 5 to 7 at Agri.Fête! For 3 days, on the Place de la Sardaigne in Carouge, a stand dedicated to the brand will welcome the population. The opportunity to (re)discover the brand, take part in awareness-raising activities on sustainable food and win, among other things, vouchers for local products to use duringagri.fête.
