Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, is proud to announce the deployment of additional standing corps officers from across Europe to support Germany’s law enforcement and the German Federal Police at German airports. This initiative aims to ensure safer and more efficient border checks for football fans travelling to Germany for EURO 2024.

A total of 28 specialists will provide their expertise at the following airports: Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Stuttgart.  Cologne and Stuttgart airports will host Frontex staff for the first time, enhancing their operational capacity for the event. Additionally, Frontex has deployed a liaison officer to the Federal Police’s command centre at their headquarters in Potsdam throughout the operational phase.

“We’re all on the same team when it comes to security and safety. Our partnership with Germany for EURO 2024 ensures that every fan can enjoy the beautiful game in a safe environment. This event is a true celebration of European unity and teamwork,” said Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens.

During the reinforcement period of EURO24, Frontex will perform border checks, random immigration checks in transit, exchange of expertise and professional experiences, support with awareness sessions, and share knowledge on detecting document fraud.

The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship will be the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organised by UEFA for the European men’s national teams of its member associations.

Germany will host the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from 14 June 2024 to 14 July 2024.

Frontex deploys thousands of officers each year to assist EU Member States in controlling their external borders. The Agency also provided experts from around Europe to help national border guards at land and air as well sea borders during the 2012 and 2016 European Championships.

As we prepare for EURO 2024, our focus is on providing support to ensure the safety and security of all participants. Our deployment of additional officers to German airports is a part of our readiness and capability to support Member States in managing large-scale events.
