The Military Space Academy named after A.F. Mozhaisky held an interuniversity Olympiad in military topography in the village of Lekhtusi, Leningrad Region. It was attended by representatives of the Military Academy of Communications named after Marshal of the Soviet Union S. M. Budyonny, the Military Institute of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation, the Military Institute of Physical Culture, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the National Mineral Resources University “Mining” and Leningrad State University named after A.S. Pushkin.

At the ceremonial formation, the competition participants were greeted by the head of the department, Colonel Roman Simakov, and an honorary worker in the field of education, Professor Yuri Bogu.

The program of the Olympiad this year included solving problems on military topography and a topographic relay race, which included assembling a topographic puzzle against the clock, determining coordinates, symbols and working with a map.

The most difficult stage for representatives of civilian universities was the work with determining the geographical coordinates of a point using the Orion navigation equipment, but, nevertheless, the boys and girls acted harmoniously and showed good knowledge.

Three students participated in the Olympiad as part of the ISI team: Daniil Konoshenkov, Ilya Glazov and Dmitry Sidorenko. The accompanying person was senior lecturer at VShPGDiS ISI Yanis Olekhnovich.

This year we brought guys with good initial military training, and we are always interested in how they will prove themselves in difficult field conditions. I believe that if the younger generation of specialists so bravely rushes to solve difficult problems associated with military craft, it means that it will be easier for them to overcome any trials in life,” said Janis Olekhnovich.

According to the results of the Olympiad, the team of the Leningrad State University named after A. S. Pushkin took first place, the team of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University took second place, and students of the Mining University took third place.
