The 9th Hong Kong Games (HKG) Closing & Prize Presentation Ceremony was held at Kowloon Park Sports Centre today, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung highlighted that over 4,000 athletes took part in more than 1,000 matches in eight sports events of this year’s HKG to strive for excellence to win honour for themselves and the districts they live in.

He lauded the athletes’ impressive achievements, saying that they not only demonstrated their masterly skills, but also their hardworking efforts and sportsmanship during the competitions.

Mr Yeung added that the Government will continue to promote the “sport for all” culture and provide the community with more opportunities for sports participation and exchanges, so as to encourage citizens to take part in various sports activities.

Different age groups, such as 15 or below, 16 to 17, and 18 or above, were introduced for individual sports events in the 9th HKG to enable more people, particularly the younger generation, to participate. The response has been encouraging, with over 1,500 young participants joining this year’s games.

The overall championship title went to Yuen Long District. The overall first runner-up was Yau Tsim Mong District, while Sha Tin District was the second runner-up.

The champions in the eight sports competitions were Yuen Long District (futsal, badminton, swimming and volleyball), Yau Tsim Mong District (three-on-three basketball and tennis) and Tuen Mun District (athletics and table tennis).
