9 February 2024

In conjunction with OGCancer NI, the Mayor lit up Council offices in Derry and Strabane on Thursday night  to raise awareness for oesophageal cancer. Oesophageal cancer is a caner that’s found anywhere in the oesphagus, which is sometimes called the gullet or food pipe.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Patricia Logue, said she was honored to highlight such an important cause by illuminating Council buildings in green this week.

“Council buildings including both offices in Derry and Strabane, will be lit up in green this week to raise awareness for Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month and all the brilliant work that OGCancer NI continue to do throughout the province.

“Stomach and Oesophageal cancer continues to affect people across our city and district and I would like to use this opportunity to not only signpost patients and caregivers to this brilliant charity, but to also let them know we are there to support them. OGCancer NI have a huge range of support services, insightful information and can direct those affected to the healthcare providers they should be in touch with.”
