The Italian Government has taken action to bring to Italy ten children from Haiti adopted by Italian families, who for security reasons linked to the serious situation underway in the Caribbean nation, marked by devastating crime, had not so far been able to leave their residences ( nine were located in the capital Port Au Prince and one in a location approximately 200 km away).

The children had been waiting for months to be able to join their Italian families, with whom they had only had contact via video call. The take-off of the children and the staff who assist them took place a few hours ago and the arrival is scheduled for the same day at the 31st Wing, Ciampino airport (Rome), with a flight made available by the Security Services.

The operation was conducted as soon as the minimum guarantee conditions were restored, in order to avoid the risk that the criminal gangs, recently responsible for the brutal murder of two American missionaries and a Haitian prelate, could also raid the orphanages.

The positive result is the result of collaborative action between Aise, the Farnesina crisis unit, the ministry for the family, birth rate and equal opportunities, the Italian embassy in Santo Domingo, the Honorary Consulate in Port Au Prince and the Commission for international adoptions .
