Sinema-backed ‘Right to Contraception Act’ codifies into law the right to contraceptives
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored the Right to Contraception Act, legislation protecting Arizonans’ access to contraceptive care.
“A woman’s health care decisions should be between her, her doctor, and her family. We’re protecting the right to contraceptives and Arizona families’ ability to make their own decisions about their futures – free from government intervention,” said Sinema.
The Right to Contraception Act codifies into law the right to get and use contraception, and for health care providers to provide services related to contraception. Specifically, the legislation prohibits the federal government or any state from implementing any provision that would prohibit or restrict access to contraception.
The Right to Contraception Act is part of Sinema’s continuing work to protect Arizona women’s and families’ health care decisions. Senator Sinema recently cosponsored the Access to Family Building Act to prevent state and local laws restricting access to assisted reproductive technology, including IVF. The Senator also cosponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act – legislation preventing the government from placing restrictions on women’s access to health care – and introduced the bipartisan Reproductive Freedom for All Act to protect Arizona women’s abilities to make their own health care decisions.
