EAGAN, MN – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig announced $500,000 to improve the Merriam Junction Regional Trail.

Rep. Craig worked with Scott County’s local leaders to secure the funding needed to convert 2.2 miles of land into a resilient regional multi-use, accessible destination trail connecting Scott and Carver counties along the Minnesota River.

This project will stabilize the shoreline of the Minnesota River, which if it continues to erode, will exacerbate water quality issues in this section of the river and have an adverse impact on our country’s largest inland grain handling port.

“Remediating the Merriam Junction Regional Trail and stabilizing the Minnesota Riverbank will create a safer, more accessible space for Minnesotans to enjoy the outdoors along the Minnesota River, while increasing economic opportunity for Scott and Carver Counties. I’m proud to bring this federal funding back to Minnesota and I’ll keep working to invest in safe infrastructure for Minnesota communities.” said Rep. Craig.

The Merriam Junction Regional Trail serves as a space for all-season recreational activities, pedestrians and outdoor enthusiasts, and holds new opportunities to bolster Minnesota’s economy by generating traffic for local businesses along the trailway and Minnesota River.
