Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement regarding HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge’s announcement of her upcoming retirement:

“I consider myself incredibly privileged to have served alongside Secretary Marcia L. Fudge for nearly two decades. Following the passing of a dear friend to us both, the late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the good people of Ohio’s 11th District were in dire need of a steady hand and compassionate voice for their representation in Congress. And those qualities have defined Secretary Fudge’s exceptional career. With the announcement of her upcoming retirement, let it be known that only a special handful of Americans in our history have served with the singular dignity and devotion of Marcia Fudge.

“In November of last year, Secretary Fudge joined me in Brooklyn to tour a senior housing community funded by Housing Choice Vouchers made possible through her working leading HUD – a shining example among many of what she was able to achieve throughout her three years within President Biden’s cabinet. Through her dedication, she expertly steered HUD and the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to overcome disparities and harms that have persisted since America’s dawn. She is recognized widely as an unwavering champion for working families and the marginalized, and is celebrated across the country for her key role in delivering change that has long eluded Black families. As she departs the Biden-Harris Administration and opens a new chapter in her storied career, I look forward to witnessing her boundless contributions to come.”
