WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) released the following statement after voting to keep the federal government funded and open.

“I came to Washington to deliver results for Long Island families and America.  It’s best to do that while keeping the government open,” said LaLota. “Keeping the government open while we continue to work to pass all twelve appropriations bills is vital in delivering on our promises to the American people. I look forward to responsibly funding the federal government and fighting for key priorities for the people of Suffolk County.”

LaLota has consistently voiced his opposition to government shutdowns and has voted to keep the government open while working for the people at every opportunity.

In October, LaLota introduced the Troops Before Politicians Act, which would prohibit members of Congress from receiving pay at any point our military is not receiving pay. ClickHEREto read the full text of this legislation.

LaLota is a cosponsor of the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act, which would require that if appropriations work is not done on time, all Members of Congress must stay in Washington, DC, and work until the spending bills are completed. This will prevent a government-wide shutdown and continue critical services and operations for Americans. ClickHEREto read the full text of this legislation.
