San Leandro, CA – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-12) joined United States Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm Monday in San Leandro, California to unveil the Cuberg Battery Factory, a pilot lithium-metal anode battery manufacturing facility that has received support from the DOE Small Business Innovation Research grant.

In 2016, Cuberg founder Richard Wang participated in the Cyclotron Road accelerator program through Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, including in-kind support. In 2018 and 2019, Cuberg received funding from the DOE’s Small Business Innovation Research grant for a total of 1.2 million. At the event, Cuberg parent company Northvolt introduced Shauna McIntyre as the new CEO of Cuberg.

“I am excited to have this innovative facility in the East Bay,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time. By supporting small businesses like Cuberg, the U.S. government is working to advance a sustainable future, create jobs, and build a more equitable economy.

“I thank Secretary Granholm for her work to advance the cutting-edge clean energy technologies that will help America achieve President Biden’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 while creating millions of good-paying union clean energy jobs. I look forward to continuing to partner with the Biden Administration to advance a carbon-free future
