How to choose a specialty you like? Is it difficult for a freshman to get comfortable at HSE? Does the university plan to open new campuses in the regions? To these and other questions in anticipation of University-wide open day HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov answered for those entering bachelor’s and specialty programs.

Subscribers to HSE social networks were able to ask questions to the Rector of the Higher School of Economics, Nikita Anisimov, on the eve of the University-wide open day for applicants to bachelor’s and specialty programs, which will be held on March 3. He spoke about career opportunities for students, international mobility programs, support for sports and much more.

“Our university works for every region of the country. We have students from all regions of Russia. The Higher School of Economics has four equivalent campuses: in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm. But in addition, we have many joint programs with universities located in different cities of Russia. These are Pskov, Khabarovsk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Maykop and Veliky Novgorod. Of course, we will open new joint programs in which students will be able to study in their regions according to the highest HSE standards, receiving a diploma from our university and a diploma from the university where they study. 54 thousand students of the Higher School of Economics are very happy to welcome thousands of students from other cities of Russia into their family,” the rector noted, in particular.

Answering the question “Which direction would you go if you were an applicant in 2024?”, Nikita Anisimov said that the university has many educational programs and areas of training – from economics, law, mathematics and chemistry to creative industries and computer science. “A huge number of opportunities open up at our university. Making such a choice yourself will probably be too easy a tip for you. Choose what you personally like, and you definitely won’t regret if you enroll in the Higher School of Economics,” he believes.

The rector also emphasized that today HSE is a university open to the world, which maintains interaction with traditional international partners and establishes interaction with new ones. “We have opened our presence centers in Southeast Asia, we are present in the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, we are interacting with Africa. And recently, our mission traveled to almost all countries of Latin America: we established partnerships with leading universities in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico,” said Nikita Anisimov.

Speaking about whether it is difficult to study at HSE and whether it is possible to combine work and study, the rector agreed that it is indeed difficult, but it is possible “if you have enough strength for it.” He noted that the university has many opportunities to try their hand at different employers: “We have a huge number of basic departments, the educational process is built around projects, around the practical activities of students, united by different areas of training in collaboration in order to so that this project is interdisciplinary.” “Our graduates are the guys that employers are really after,” he added.

At the end of this unusual interview, the rector invited applicants and their parents to an Open Day. There you can learn everything about educational programs, student life, meet teachers and future classmates. “And most importantly, you will see how big, beautiful and diverse it is – our wonderful university, our HSE, the Higher School of Economics. When you come here, you will understand that there cannot be another university!” – Nikita Anisimov is sure.
