Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. released the following statement addressing the release of the text of the bipartisan Senate border bill.
“Every American needs to understand that President Joe Biden has the power to secure our borders right now. He has chosen not to for over three years, creating the worst border crisis in history and our greatest, most immediate threat to our national security,” Senator Marshall said.
“I don’t see anything in this bill that would compel the Biden Administration to change course or hold the President accountable. Even the lead Democrat negotiator bragged last night, saying, ‘This bill doesn’t close the border.’”
“This legislation will not secure the border. It does not go far enough on asylum, makes Biden’s parole abuse even worse, supercharges NGOs with BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to fly illegal migrants to an airport near you,” Senator Marshall continued.
“Throughout this process, I’ve said I was listening and hoping for a solution, but to my disappointment, I do not believe there is one in this legislation. Even the lead Democrat negotiator bragged last night, saying, ‘This bill doesn’t close the border.’”
Background:
The emergency supplemental spending agreement includes the following:
•                     Does not go far enough on asylum.
•                     Allows Joe Biden to abuse parole even more.
•                     Supercharges the NGOs to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars- to fly illegal migrants to an airport near you.
•                     Does not end catch and release.
•                     Gives Joe Biden the authority to suspend the border shutdown
•                     Zero new money for a border wall and does not require the Department of Homeland Security to build any wall;
•                     $60 Billion for Ukraine’s war against Russia, including $350 million for Ukraine to secure its borders. Meanwhile, no new money is allocated for the United States to secure its borders;
Senator Marshall, a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Accountability Committee, has long pushed for border security reforms included in the Secure the Border Act. This bill has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives, and he is a cosponsor of the Senate companion to this comprehensive package.
