Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed.
The two leaders discussed the ongoing work surrounding the implementation of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement. In particular, they stressed the importance of continuing disarmament and demobilization efforts.
Prime Minister Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s ongoing support for Ethiopia’s stability and the prosperity of its people. The leaders discussed the steps to be taken towards the peaceful resolution of internal conflicts, including the importance of providing humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable.
The Prime Ministers underlined the importance of regional cooperation, particularly in terms of transport and trade. Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized the need to ensure that this cooperation involves all parties concerned.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Abiy agreed to remain in close contact and to work together to foster peace, stability and sustainable development in Ethiopia and throughout the region.
