WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement after the Biden Administration released its five-year offshore oil and natural gas leasing plan a day after allowing the previous plan to lapse, breaking a promise made by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland that the Administration would roll out a new leasing plan by June 30. The Administration’s delayed rollout of its offshore leasing program guarantees that the nation will go more than two years without a successful offshore lease sale for the first time since the 1960s.
“It’s extreme and reckless that the Biden Administration has proposed an option for no offshore lease sales nationwide. This radical plan comes at a time when Louisiana families are facing record-high gas prices and runaway inflation that is hurting our economy. President Biden’s anti-American energy agenda is also hurting Louisiana’s flood protection because it denies us millions of dollars a year from revenue sharing that we won’t have to restore our eroding coast. This plan was an opportunity to unleash American production offshore and begin to reclaim our energy dominance so we can lower gas prices. Instead, President Biden continues to limit American energy production while at the same time begging foreign countries like Russia and Saudi Arabia to produce oil for us.”
