WASHINGTON, DC [06/29/22] – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), Co-Chair of the House Oceans Caucus and House Estuary Caucus and member of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, applauded the launch of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Climate Ready Coasts initiative.

“Coastal communities face some of the greatest risks from the climate crisis. I applaud the NOAA Climate Ready Coasts initiative, which uses funding I helped secure in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. “As Co-Chair of the House Oceans Caucus and Estuary Caucus I’ve been leading the effort in Congress to invest in coastal restoration, marine debris removal, and research. I look forward to seeing the climate resiliency work that comes out of these grants.

“Restoring our marine, coastal and estuarine habitats doesn’t just protect our coastal communities from weather events intensified by the climate crisis. These habitats also store large amounts of carbon, and are a key tool in our fight against the climate crisis. I’ve championed legislation, like my Blue Carbon for Our Planet Act and the COAST Research Act, to enhance research, protection, and restoration of these vital ecosystems. The funding announced today is a good step toward implementing the comprehensive Climate Action Plan I helped write with my colleagues on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. We are already experiencing the dangerous consequences of the climate crisis and must act with urgency.”
