Boomplay, a music streaming platform, on Wednesday partnered with Kenya’s telecom firm, Telkom Kenya, to deepen access to songs in the country.
The partnership makes millions of African and international songs more easily accessible to Kenyans at affordable rates of as low as 49 shillings (about 0.42 U.S. dollars) a day.
“This partnership is a great step to ensure that music is more affordable and accessible to users across the country. It offers an ideal opportunity to enhance our vision of ensuring the African music ecosystem unlocks its full potential,” Martha Huro, Boomplay’s Managing Director, East Africa, said in a statement issued in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Eric Achola, Telkom Kenya’s Marketing Director, said with increased commoditization of the internet, content is king, thus, the firm will leverage on its mobile data network to give Kenyans unrivalled music experience.
Boomplay, which is headquartered in Nigeria, was launched in 2015. It has since spread to Tanzania and Kenya and users have access to over 75 million local and international songs.
