Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that she secured $580 million for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) consolidation project at the St. Elizabeths West Campus in the District of Columbia in the House’s fiscal year 2023 appropriations bills. The funding is included in the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill ($380 million) and the DHS Appropriations bill ($200 million), both of which the House Committee on Appropriations passed last Friday.

“The DHS consolidation project at St. Elizabeths is immensely important to the federal government as well as to the District of Columbia, where DHS will be consolidated,“ Norton said. “Currently, many DHS agencies operate from expensive leased spaces across the National Capital Region. Consolidating the headquarters of these agencies on one campus will improve national security coordination and cooperation while reducing the federal government’s footprint and saving taxpayer money. DHS consolidation will also lead to more economic activity in D.C. by DHS employees, bolstering D.C.’s economy. The funding will go a long way to completing the project, improving DHS operations and improving our country’s security.”

Norton has long supported the consolidation project and has secured more than $2 billion for the project.
