WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) issued the following statement today regarding the Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, which overturned New York’s concealed carry law and has direct implications for Maryland:
“Today, at a critical moment in the fight against gun violence, the Supreme Court overruled the majority of Americans who support common sense gun safety reforms and struck down a New York law protecting public safety,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “This decision, which makes it harder for states like Maryland to protect public safety, is a danger to communities across the country and more devastating evidence of dark money’s influence over this hyper-partisan, extremist Supreme Court. We must continue working to show we are not powerless to address the gun violence crisis.”
