From June 23, 2022, people, e.g. travelers, who want to renew their expiring Covid certificate can get a second booster vaccination. This vaccination is at your own expense. The canton of Berne recommends a target price of CHF 60 per vaccination for those who need to be vaccinated. Payment is made on site. Persons aged twelve and over are permitted whose first booster vaccination was carried out at least four months ago. The vaccination is carried out off-label, i.e. outside of a recommendation by the Federal Commission for Vaccination (Ekif) or the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) and is based on a decision by the Federal Council of June 10, 2022.

The obligation to pay only relates to the second booster vaccination. Vaccination for the basic immunization (first and second vaccination), the first booster vaccination and, for severely immunocompromised people, the third vaccination for the basic immunization and the second booster vaccination remain free of charge.

Appointments for a second booster vaccination cannot be booked via VacMe. The registration takes place directly via the vaccination sites. The respective procedure (walk-in, own booking systems, telephone pre-registration and others) is described on the Canton of Bern’s vaccination website:

From June 23, 2022, all vaccination locations will be visible on the vaccination website as soon as the “Vaccinations at cost” filter is selected on the overview page. The vaccination sites are continuously activated.

A second booster vaccination is currently only recommended for severely immunodeficient people. For other groups of people, the second booster vaccination is currently not recommended by the FOPH and Ekif from an epidemiological and medical point of view. The studies available to date and the epidemiological course have shown that the protection provided by the first booster vaccination against serious illnesses and hospitalizations is still good.

Travelers are asked to get on the BAG page and to inform their destination country about the validity period of their certificate and what to do if it is about to expire.
