The newly built skatepark at King George V playing fields will officially open on Saturday 11 June with a skate jam between 12-4pm where pro riders will be providing demos, along with competitions and prizes, and live music.

The free event will be attended by the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Derek Green, who will declare the park officially open. The skate park, which is the third of its kind in the district – with other facilities at River Park and Stanmore Recreation Ground -provides a very important space for upcoming and seasoned skateboarders, BMX riders and scooterists.

Replacing the previously outdated facility, the new skate park, designed by skate company Maverick, was completed by on behalf of Winchester City Council.

Russ Holbert, Design Director for Maverick said:

“Maverick was delighted to be involved in the build for a skatepark for KGV – the design was worked up in consultation with a keen group of local riders and will provide a great space for people of all ages and abilities to practice their skills.”

Cllr Ferguson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community and Housing added:

“It’s great to see the new skate park at the King George V playing field open and available for everyone to enjoy. Creating the skate park in collaboration with the skating community has been an exciting project for the Winchester district and it’s a fantastic addition to the KGV playing fields. The skate jam next weekend will be a fitting way to celebrate.”
