The Burnie community is invited to find out more about plans to deliver a Youth2Independence (Y2I) facility in Burnie.
Y2I facilities are Tasmania’s leading model of youth accommodation supporting young people to build skills as independent young adults by participating in education and training.
The Tasmanian Government is committed to increasing supported accommodation for young Tasmanians at risk of homelessness by providing more Y2I facilities statewide.
Staff from Communities Tasmania and Youth, Family and Community Connections will be available to talk with interested people at the Burnie Scout Hall on Monday, 23 May 2022.
The Burnie Y2I facility will be located near TasTAFE and Hellyer College, it is close to transport and other services and can accommodate up to 25 young people aged 16-24 years.
Each young person will have their own private self-contained studio space and have access to an onsite manager, shared kitchen, indoor and outdoor recreation and quiet spaces.
Three successful Y2I facilities are currently operating in Tasmania: Thyne House (Launceston), Eveline House (Devonport) and Trinity Hill (Hobart).
Construction of the Burnie Y2I facilty is expected to commence next month.
The Burnie Scout Hall is located at 11 Ace Avenue, Shorewell Park. You are welcome to visit between 1.00 – 6.00 pm noting that COVID-safe precautions will be in place.
