To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the city will be celebrating by holding a series of events between 2 – 5 June.
Thursday 2 June
A FREE ticketed event at 9pm in Coventry Cathedral ruins for the lighting of Coventry’s Jubilee Beacon.
Our event lasting approximately 45 minutes will be one of many beacon lighting events across the country, all being lit at the same time. These beacons provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories, and the Commonwealth, to come together to celebrate this historic milestone. This event includes a programme of music and spoken word from the people of Coventry performed during the event to send a message of hope and celebration for the future.
Thursday 2 – Sun 5 June
City Jubilee Street Party
The Assembly Festival Garden at Little Park Street (opposite the Council House) will be showing the major Jubilee events on a big screen as part of the celebrations. The large outdoor screen in the Festival Garden will broadcast all the most memorable moments of the weekend for everyone to gather and enjoy together.

Thursday 2 June: a.m. – Trooping the Colour
Trooping of the Colour brings together 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians every June to mark the Queen’s birthday. While it is annually held on the second Saturday in June, this year it has been moved to Thursday 2nd June to kick-start the Queen’s Platinum weekend.
Friday 3 June: a.m. – Platinum Jubilee: A Service of Thanksgiving
David Dimbleby, Kirsty Young and Sophie Raworth broadcast the Service of Thanksgiving live in the presence of senior members of the Royal Family.
Saturday 4 June: Evening – Platinum Party at the Palace
the Party will bring together the world’s biggest entertainers to perform in front of Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace. With state-of-the-art technology and a stunning stage design, the event will feature an incredible range of highlights from global music stars with a full, live orchestra – to actors from film, TV and the stage telling the story and celebrating some of the most significant cultural moments from The Queen’s seven-decade reign.
Sunday 5 June: p.m. – Platinum Jubilee Pageant in the Mall
The Pageant will have all the excitement and spectacle of an international parade and carnival – awe-inspiring and filled with marvel and delight. The Pageant will combine street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume to celebrate Her Majesty’s unwavering duty, love of the natural world and dedication to the Commonwealth.
The Garden is free to enter and is the ideal space to come together and witness the events taking place across the country. Dressed for the occasion, the Festival Garden will be splendidly decorated and have an array of food vendors and a well-stocked bar to keep everyone refreshed throughout. It is also the venue for people in the city to join the Jubilee City Street Party.
Saturday 4 June
City Centre Celebration
Coventry city centre will host a day of music, street theatre, a make and take marquee, plus a children’s art trail by Katy O. People will be encouraged to download the trail sheet and answer the questions as you follow the trail.
Three stages of music, one in Broadgate, one outside Coventry Central Library and one on the balcony of HMV Empire in Hertford Street, will provide a varied range of musical entertainment for your enjoyment. The “make and take” marquee in Broadgate is for children to make crowns, flags and all sorts of jubilee crafts. We also have street entertainers throughout the city centre amazing crowds with stilt walking, balloon making and general silliness!
All this takes place between 11am and 4pm and all activities and entertainment are FREE!

Coventry’s libraries are also celebrating with lots of free events in local libraries and joining in with the reading for pleasure Big Jubilee Read.
Sunday 5 June
Jubilee Bands in the Park and Big Lunch
The first Bands in the Park event of 2022 is taking place in the War Memorial Park on Sunday 5 June. Running from 2pm to 3.30pm this FREE event has the Jaguar Land Rover Band entertaining crowds with a splendid programme of rousing music. This event includes The Big Jubilee Lunch, so bring a picnic some chairs and celebrate whilst listening to some great music in wonderful surroundings.

“Coventry is honoured to have one of the Jubilee Beacons being lit in the Cathedral ruins. This kicks off a wonderful few days of celebrations in the city. We have a great variety of events taking place across the bank holiday with free celebrations taking place in the city centre, War Memorial Park and Assembly Festival Gardens for all members of the family. Music, street entertainers, a great children’s trail, as well as a craft make and do workshop in Broadgate. We welcome everyone to come into the city and enjoy what is on offer as part of the special celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee,”
