The corresponding report, according to which a finger had probably been found on Hardstrasse, on the back of an apartment building with a restaurant, near a waste container, was received at 12:23 p.m. by the Basel-Landschaft police operations control center.
The emergency services actually found a finger on site. This was recorded in compliance with the protection of traces and transported to the Institute for Forensic Medicine (IRM) in Basel.
Initial investigations revealed that it was undoubtedly a severed human finger (thumb of a right hand).
There are currently no concrete indications – neither of the origin nor under what circumstances the finger was severed and later found at the site. The police in Basel-Landschaft, in cooperation with the public prosecutor’s office in Basel-Landschaft, have started investigations.
The Basel-Landschaft police are looking for witnesses. Anyone who can provide information on the origin of the finger or who knows someone who has a corresponding hand injury is asked to contact the operations control center in Liestal, Tel. 061 553 35 35.
