MIL-OSI Europe: Written question – Politically motivated imprisonment of children – P-001644/2022

Source: European Parliament

A number of Cuba-based NGOs that work to protect the rights of prisoners on that island have reported that 14 children aged between 13 and 17 have been imprisoned and that 5 000 children have been forcibly separated from their parents as a politically motivated, eight-year punishment for their parents (under the ‘Eight-Year Law’).

In the light of these flagrant human rights breaches by the Cuban Government and of Article 5 of the EU-Cuba Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement:

What steps has the Joint Council taken to fulfil its role of monitoring the objectives of the Agreement and, where appropriate, of denouncing and prosecuting human rights breaches by the Cuban Government?
