The Department of Education and Culture of the Canton of Uri (BKD) looks back on a busy year. It was again shaped over long stretches by the tasks involved in overcoming the corona pandemic in education, culture and sport. In addition, BKD was able to achieve important successes in its key projects. She has now tackled the new year with corresponding ambition.
The second year of the pandemic has demanded a lot from each individual and society as a whole. Many ran at times hard on the limit and sometimes beyond it. “Nevertheless, we did not let Corona discourage us,” says Beat Jörg, Director of Education and Culture for the canton of Uri. “Rather, together with our network partners, we were always able to effectively fulfill our systemically important tasks for society as a whole. In addition to these tasks, which characterize day-to-day business, we have also worked tirelessly with great commitment on our ambitious plans and projects in the areas of education, culture and sport.» It was very gratifying, says Beat Jörg, if one were allowed to look back and see what was achieved despite the difficult circumstances.
As a look at the BKD’s annual goals for 2021 shows, most of them have been achieved. To name the most important ones: the state archives have moved into the renovated office and storerooms and have optimized the service processes for authorities and administration. The cantonal integration program (KIP) 2bis was developed in a timely manner, dealt with by the government council and approved by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM). The new culture promotion law was passed by the people, and the consultation for the revised law on schools and education was held in autumn 2021. With this, an important milestone towards a modern and comprehensive Uri education law was reached.

“We want to continue to do our utmost to serve the people of Uri,” says Cantonal Councilor Beat Jörg. That is why the BKD has again set high goals for the year 2022. The most important include:
The revised Law on Schools and Education (Education Law) has been dealt with by the district administrator and passed by the people, and the project to revise the subsequent legislation has started.
The ordinance on “Art and Building” is dealt with by the District Administrator.
The loan decision for the cantonal contribution for the renovation of the Uri Theater (2023 to 2030) is ready for consultation in the district administrator.
The report on the Ursern sports center project (Daniel Furrer’s postulate) has been dealt with by the district administrator.
In the implementation of the cantonal integration program 2022 to 2023 (KIP 2bis), a special focus is placed on reaching migrants from EU/EFTA and third countries.
In addition, the BKD is pushing ahead with the lighthouse projects assigned to it from the government program 2020 to 2024+. This includes, for example, improving the compatibility of work and family life and the further development of the educational offering with a view to internationalization. Another focus in 2022 is digital change: As part of the cantonal digitization strategy, the BKD will take further implementation steps in its areas so that Uri can take advantage of the opportunities of change.
All important annual goals of the BKD are available on the canton’s website: www.ur.ch, search term «annual targets BKD».
