The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) welcomes the work accomplished by the Gambian Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), which submitted its final report to the President of the Republic of The Gambia, H.E. Adama Barrow, on 25 November.

As stated by H.E. Mr. Dawda A. Jallow, Attorney General and Minister of Justice of The Gambia and Dr. Lamin J. Sise, Chairperson of the Gambian TRRC during a PBC meeting convened by H.E. Mr. Osama Abdelkhalek, Chair of the PBC, on 27 October, the recommendations contained in the report provide a solid foundation to strengthen rule of law and fight impunity.

The PBC reiterates its willingness to support, within its mandate, the implementation of the TRRC recommendations, and in this respect underscores the importance of their timely publication. The PBC stresses the need to press forward on critical policy, governance, and institutional reforms and highlights the importance of a peaceful and transparent presidential election on 4 December in consolidating democratic gains since 2017.

The PBC expresses its readiness to help sustain international support for The Gambia’s peacebuilding priorities, including the transitional justice process.
