As part of the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Moscow people’s militia and the 80th anniversary of the Soviet counteroffensive against the Nazi invaders in the Battle of Moscow, servicemen, employees, veterans of the radiation, chemical and biological protection troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation visited the dugout monument and a mass grave in the village of Efimonovo (Buzharovskoe settlement) of the Istra district of the Moscow region to honor the memory of the soldiers of the chemical protection platoon under the command of junior lieutenant NS Kulchitsky.
On November 18, 1941, near Volokolamsk, 28 Panfilov men of the 316th rifle division stopped German tanks at the cost of their lives. A week later, on November 26, 36 soldiers and commanders of the chemical protection platoon of the 365th regiment of the 18th rifle division performed a feat of the same importance.
After heavy battles for Buzharovo, the 365th Rifle Regiment withdrew to the eastern coast of Istra. The departure of the main regiment was covered by a chemical protection platoon of Nikolai Kulchitsky, fortified on the outskirts of Efimonovo. Of the weapons they had only rifles, grenades and “Molotov cocktails”, and they were used by 40 enemy tanks. In that battle, the Germans lost 20 tanks, the Kulchitsky platoon – 33 people. The villagers hid the three surviving wounded soldiers.
On the site of this battle, veterans of the 11th Guards Division (formerly the 18th division of the people’s militia) erected a monument – a concrete dugout, on which memorial plates with the names of the fallen soldiers are fixed. The deceased defenders are buried in a mass grave in the village of Buzharovo.
By the decision of the Chief of the NBC Defense Troops of the RF Armed Forces, Lieutenant General I. Kirillov, November 26 was included in the list of memorable dates of the NBC Defense Troops.
The rally was attended by servicemen of the Office of the Chief of the NBC Defense Troops of the RF Armed Forces, the 27th Scientific Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense, veterans of the NBC Defense Troops, representatives of the administration of the city of Istra, the Cossacks, public organizations, members of search clubs, junior soldiers of the detachment named after Marshal of the Soviet Union S.K. Timoshenko, cadets, schoolchildren of Moscow and their peers from the Moscow region, local residents.
The creative team of the Buzharovsky cultural and leisure complex performed a literary and musical composition dedicated to the feat of the chemical protection platoon.
In honor of the memory of the heroic deed – the defenders of Moscow, a minute of silence was announced.
The rector of the Kazan Church of the Icon of the Mother of God, Archpriest Father Nicholas, conducted the funeral litia to the ringing of bells.
The event was attended by the Banner Group of the Moscow Autonomous Educational Institution “Gymnasium No. 2” of the urban district of Shchelkovo, which set up a guard of honor for holding the event in accordance with military honors and ritual at the memorial “Blindage” and at the mass grave of the fallen soldiers.
During the rally, the Banner Group laid a wreath from the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops at the memorial and mass grave. Those present laid flowers.
At the end of the event, the schoolchildren were shown a thematic film about the history of the battle of the chemical defense platoon “Fight at the village of Efimonovo”.
“Our memory makes the feats of our ancestors immortal. It’s nice that our youth actively participates in such events, ”said Major General E. Starkov, President of the Union of Veterans of the RCB Defense Troops.
“The battle for Moscow began exactly 80 years ago. The defense of the capital is the key event of the Great Patriotic War, one of the brightest episodes of which was the feat of the chemical protection platoon. We all need such actions very much so that the link between generations is not interrupted, ”said Colonel A. Smirnov, leading researcher at the 27th Scientific Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
