Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) released the following statement after the House passed legislation to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. military servicemembers who were killed in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021.

Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) released the following statement after the House passed legislation to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. military servicemembers who were killed in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021. 
 
“We lost some of our nation’s very best on August 26, 2021. I am pleased the House came together in a bipartisan manner to honor the 13 heroes that gave the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of their nation. I hope that this award will solidify to their families the gravity of our appreciation,” said Garcia. “I urge the Senate to move quickly and pass this legislation to properly honor these 13 American heroes.” 
 
This legislation, which Garcia co-sponsored, would award the Congressional Gold Medal to Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover, Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Sgt. Nicole Gee, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Cpl. Daegan Page, Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, Cpl. David Lee Espinoza, Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, Hospitalman Maxton Soviak, and Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss.
