Headline: Covid-19: Booster vaccination should better protect older people from serious illness
The Covid-19 vaccines used in Switzerland are extremely effective and provide good protection against serious illness and hospitalization. Protection may, however, diminish somewhat over time in older people. In order to continue to protect them as best as possible from a serious illness, the Federal Office of Public Health and the Federal Commission for Vaccination Issues (EKIF) recommend a booster vaccination to people over 65 years of age. This is in line with the approval decision of the therapeutic products authority Swissmedic. For the general population, a booster vaccination is currently not permitted and not recommended due to the current data situation.
