The crews of the small artillery ships (IAC) “Makhachkala” and “Astrakhan” of the Caspian Flotilla (CFL) in a joint exercise performed tasks to ensure the survivability of the ship. Combat training events took place as part of the verification of units claiming to be awarded the honorary title “shock”.

At the training complex (UTK) “Kaspiy”, the personnel of the emergency crews complied with the standards for localizing and extinguishing a fire in the ship’s compartments, as well as for sealing holes in the hull and eliminating the incoming sea water.

In the premises of the UTK, imitating various ship compartments, the servicemen, in conditions as close as possible to combat ones, with the actual flow of seawater, eliminated holes in the ship’s hull. The sailors used typical damage control equipment: patch plasters of various types, wedges and sliding stops.

When practicing extinguishing the fire, the sailors sealed the burning compartment, preventing the spread of fire, and eliminating the fires.

The KFL servicemen worked out well-coordinated actions and algorithms as part of the team, and also correctly distributed the crew’s efforts during the implementation of measures to combat the damage to the ship’s survivability.

In total, about 120 sailors of the KFl surface ship formation were involved in the exercise at the Caspian complex.
