WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today the U.S. House of Representatives voted to support the efforts of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol to seek the full truth about the events that occurred on January 6, 2021. In doing so, both Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. House found Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for his refusal to comply with a subpoena issued by the Select Committee.
As a member of the House Rules Committee, Perlmutter made the following remarks during the Committee’s consideration of the measure on October 20th:
In his remarks, Perlmutter recognized the honor and courage of the members of the Select Committee and noted the importance of the defense of the rule of law.
Later in the hearing, Perlmutter made additional remarks, stating that, “What happened on January 6th, that was a direct attack on liberty. That was a direct attack on freedom. That was a direct attack on people’s right to vote. And the subpoena that the Committee has issued has been ignored and defied. The Committee is within its full rights, this Congress is within its full rights to demand the truth from Mr. Bannon.”
According to published reports, Bannon had specific knowledge about the events planned for January 6th and had multiple roles relevant to the investigation of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Perlmutter supports the bipartisan Select Committee and its mission to investigate and report upon the facts and causes of the attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.
