Local farmers who suffered serious losses caused by the recent heavy rainstorm and tropical storm Lionrock can register from tomorrow to October 22 for assistance from an emergency relief fund.
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department made this announcement today.
The department’s preliminary investigation revealed that the rainstorm and the tropical storm affected about 300 hectares of New Territories farmland. An appropriate amount of the relief fund would be released to affected farming households according to established criteria.
To avoid crowd gathering and to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, applicants may submit an online application, or make a registration appointment with the Agricultural Extension Office by calling 2476 2424 or 2477 9408 to facilitate the arrangement for farm inspections. Should they choose to register at the office on 5/F, Yuen Long Government Offices in Yuen Long, they should still make an appointment, the department noted.
If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above, the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal or the post-super typhoon extreme conditions is in force during the registration period, the deadline will be extended to October 25, the department added.
