In September 2021, the number of job seekers registered with the ORP fell (-202) to reach 5,714 people. A decrease in the number of unemployed (-174) is also observed and this workforce now numbers 3,485 people. Neuchâtel’s unemployment rate fell by 0.2 pt compared to the previous month and therefore remained below 4% to reach 3.7%. We have to go back to December 2019 to observe such a rate. A monthly decrease can also be observed in French-speaking Switzerland as well as at the national level with unemployment rates standing at 3.6% (-0.1 pt) and 2.6% (-0.1 pt) respectively. For the third consecutive month, in intercantonal comparison, the canton of Neuchâtel shows one of the largest annual drops in the unemployment rate (-1.2 pt). In terms of entry dynamics, the number of registrations in a canton’s ORP stood at 605 people in September compared to 599 in August. Regarding the dynamics of exits, the number of people who left the ORP stood at 809, 49 more than the previous month. Decreases in the number of unemployed are observed in all age groups. Indeed, people aged under 25 (-32), people aged 25 to 49 (-114) as well as people aged 50 and over (-28) see their workforce decrease in September. . Regarding the economic sectors, the number of unemployed decreases relatively significantly in watchmaking (-61), construction (-24), specialized scientific and technical activities (-17), other activities manufacturing (-16), metal product manufacturing (-16) and accommodation and food services (-14). No significant sectoral increase in the number of unemployed can be noted in September.
