This year, viewers will see the author’s readings of Shakespeare and Pushkin, as well as performances based on plays by contemporary playwrights. Read about creativity in a pandemic and plans for the future in this mos.ru article.

The theater life of the capital is not limited to the Garden Ring. This is the 35th consecutive year that the Moscow Drama Theater on Perovskaya, located in Novogireev, has been proving. Here, ambitious young directors bring their creative ideas to life, working with classics and contemporary drama.

“We try to build a sincere dialogue with the viewer so that no one leaves us indifferent and gets material for reflection and discussion. To want to share what he saw with those who have not yet had time to join the world of theater. I think this is our vocation, our goal, ”says the artistic director of the collective Gulnara Galavinskaya.

Survive the pandemic

The year was difficult for the theater. However, the creative process did not stop – only the form changed. During the quarantine, online rehearsals, live broadcasts with spectators, poetry video evenings dedicated to the poets – heroes of the year 2021: Nekrasov, Mandelstam, Gumilev, Baudelaire were held.

When the restrictions were eased, four premiere performances were released: a documentary production based on letters from front-line soldiers “Roads of Victories”, “New Year’s Concert on Perovskaya”, “Stories by Konstantin Treplev” based on Chekhov’s “The Seagull” and “Pain” based on the play by the modern playwright Vasily Sigarev “Phantom pain. ” In addition, the theater has taken part in a number of international and regional festivals.

Far from the bustle of the city

The peculiarity of the Theater on Perovskaya is its intimacy. The hall is designed for 104 seats, but now, taking into account the restrictions, it is only half filled.

“We are removed from the city bustle of the central streets. And many people mistakenly think that the further from the center, the easier it is. No, much more difficult! After all, here the artist is always under the watchful eye of the viewer, is on the same level with him, face to face. You can dissolve in the hustle and bustle, but there is nothing to hide behind, ”says one of the theater’s old-timers, actor Oleg Zhukov, for whom this season will be the 26th.

But Natalia Vasina has been serving in the theater only for the second year. Nevertheless, she has already fully imbued with his spirit and goes on stage with pleasure.

“In order not to yield to eminent venues, we play each performance very honestly, with maximum depth and maximum dedication,” says the actress.

Fans and plans

The audience of the theater is not only residents of the surrounding areas. For example, Andrey Levitsky has been coming to Novogireevo from the south-west of the capital for the second year already.

“It all started with the play“ The Marriage of Figaro ”based on the play by Pierre de Beaumarchais. I was convinced by the director’s concept, the actor’s vision of the characters, and the stage design. If we add to this a cozy hall, a spacious foyer, where wonderful live music sounds, the courtesy of the staff, affordable ticket prices – then you want to come here again and again, ”says Andrey.

Another regular spectator, Denis Guskov, discovered the Theater on Perovskaya thanks to his son, when he went with him to the play “The Fly-Tsokotukha”. A few years later, he came to the same performance with his youngest daughter. The children have grown up long ago, but Denis and his whole family continue to go to the theater. “This is one of the few Moscow theaters where you can immerse yourself in the stage action, feeling like a part of what is happening. A very interesting experience, ”he says.

The 35th season opened on September 3 with the premiere of the play “Elsa’s Land” based on the play of the same name by Yaroslava Pulinovich, directed by Vitaly Kogut. The plans include “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare and “Shot” based on the works of A.S. Pushkin. The directors will be the artistic director of the theater, Gulnara Galavinskaya and Yuri Pechenezhsky, respectively.

In addition, it is planned to participate in a number of festivals, including international ones, and a tour in Novorossiysk.
