Press Release

WASHINGTON – After the State of California today announced it will be imposing across-the-board vaccine mandates on California schoolchildren, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) issued the following statement opposing any similar orders for minors to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a requirement to attend school in New York:

“Considering the science and data, vaccines widely available for educators and other staff, treatment and testing options continuing to get even better, and other mitigation measures still in effect, New York State should absolutely not require the COVID vaccine for New York’s schoolchildren. In the words of President Biden in December 2020, ‘No, I don’t think it should be mandatory. I wouldn’t demand it be mandatory.’”

This past Monday, Congressman Zeldin hosted a press conference with local healthcare workers and members of the New York State Assembly and State Senate, and Suffolk County Legislators, in opposition to Governor Hochul’s vaccine mandate ordering the firing of New York’s unvaccinated healthcare professionals and causing the state’s healthcare system further into a staffing shortage and chaos.
