MIL-OSI Russia: The Arctic group of the Northern Fleet overcame the ice-prone areas of the Vilkitsky Strait

MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Ships and vessels of the Arctic grouping of the Northern Fleet, cruising along the route of the Northern Sea Route under the command of Deputy Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Oleg Golubev, crossed from the Laptev Sea to the Kara Sea by the Vilkitsky Strait.

The Severomors crossed ice-prone areas without icebreaker support, taking into account the actual situation, which was complicated by hydrometeorological conditions. The north wind and low air temperature contributed to the appearance of drifting ice floes in the pouring zone. To clarify the ice situation, the crew of the Ka-27PS helicopter made several reconnaissance flights from the large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk.

Currently, ships and vessels of the Arctic group are operating in the Kara Sea in the Mathisen Strait. Participants of the 10th anniversary Arctic cruise of ships and support vessels of the Northern Fleet will work out a set of combat training missions in the region of the Severnaya and Novaya Zemlya archipelagoes, after which they will return to their bases on the Kola Peninsula.

The tenth Arctic cruise of the surface forces of the Northern Fleet began on August 10 with a departure from the main base of the Northern Fleet in the city of Severomorsk. The cruise takes place under the flag of Vice-Admiral Oleg Golubev, Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet. During the Arctic cruise, ships and support vessels of the Northern Fleet traveled about 10 thousand nautical miles, conducted a number of exercises in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas and in the Laptev Sea, as well as in the port of Dudinka (Taimyr Peninsula) and in the area of the Yakut village of Tiksi.
